Lately my posts have been a bit few and far between, but I couldn't resist popping in really quick to post about the lovely cakes of the Caketress. Usually I am a fan of a simple cake with minimal color, but Lori Hutchinson's cakes are totally over the top in a truly amazing way! In the bottom photo, the flowers that appear to be stitched - no! Each thread was hand painted. Incredible.

These cakes are gorgeous -- thanks for sharing that link. I particularly like the last one - it's such a creative idea. I've been baking for awhile now but have yet to try working with fondant. That seems only inevitable though, especially as I'd like to own a bakery some day (consider it a side job from my planned profession of philosophy professor).
